Ingredients

To make a delicious cake for a one-year-old boy, you need the following ingredients: one cup of all-purpose flour, one teaspoon of baking powder, one-eighth teaspoon of baking soda, one teaspoon of ground cinnamon, one-quarter teaspoon of ground nutmeg, one-half cup of butter, one cup of white sugar, two eggs, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, one-half cup of buttermilk and one-half cup of mashed banana.

Instructions

To start, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract. Add the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk, mixing just until incorporated. Beat in the mashed banana until fully combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting and Decorations

For the frosting, you can use store-bought cake frosting or make your own. To make your own, cream together one-half cup of butter, one-quarter cup of cocoa powder, two cups of confectioners' sugar, one teaspoon of vanilla extract and 3-4 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Spread the frosting onto the cooled cake. For decorations, you can use a variety of items such as sprinkles, candy, and small toys. You can also make a small fondant cake topper that your one-year-old can keep as a special keepsake.
