Traditional Hungarian Cake Recipes

Dobos Torte
The Dobos Torte is one of the most popular Hungarian cakes. This layered sponge cake is filled with a rich chocolate buttercream and topped with a caramelized sugar topping. It's a delicious treat, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients:
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup of cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons of light corn syrup
- 2 cups of confectioners' sugar
- 1/2 cup of butter, softened
- 4 ounces of semisweet chocolate, melted and cooled
- 1/4 cup of heavy cream
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon of water
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch springform pan.
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs until light and foamy. Beat in the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, salt, vanilla, melted butter, and corn syrup until well blended.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the frosting, beat together the confectioners' sugar and softened butter until smooth. Beat in the melted chocolate and cream until blended.
- Spread the frosting over the cooled cake.
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup. Cook and stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is bubbly. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and pour over the frosted cake. Allow to cool before serving.
